Brad Paisley and Wampler have teamed up yet again to deliver a stacked drive pedal to die for. Legend has it that Mr Paisley was first smitten with Wampler when he tried their, since-discontinued, Underdog overdrive pedal. The Underdog was known for producing tones reminiscent of the very highly regarded Nobels ODR-S. The impression this pedal made on Mr Paisley ultimately culminated in a signature pedal called the Paisley Drive, thus beginning a long and fruitful relationship between the two.
The Paisley Drive Deluxe is the culmination of requirements set out by Mr Paisley and Wampler’s knowhow. To create the perfect stacked drive pedal, Wampler has resurrected the Underdog that Brad initially fell in love with and combined it with the original Paisley Drive. Both pedals can be used individually or in tandem to create some serious gristle.
The Nitty Gritty
The Paisley Drive Deluxe sports two channels. Channel 1 is the, extremely sought-after, recreation of the Wampler Underdog with its Nobels like grit. Channel 2 is the Paisley Drive complete with its versatility and signature, amp-like drive tones. The pedal features full, independent control over each of these channels as well as a menagerie of switching options.
Combinations
With the Paisley Deluxe Drive, versatility is of utmost importance. The channels can be used separately or in conjunction with one another. When running the pedals together, you can choose to run the channels into each other in whichever order you’d like. There is a 3-way switch at the top of the pedal which allows you to select which way the pedal is routing everything. The first mode of note is ‘Separate’ mode. When the pedal is in this mode, each channel turns on independently. The other two modes are combination modes.
When running the pedal in one of the combination modes, you have the choice of running channel 1 into channel 2 or vice versa. To make things easier to visualise the two options would look like this: 1>2 or 2>1. This ensures that you can select a route that best suits your rig or for nailing a specific tone you are aiming for.
The independent inputs and outputs for each channel also ensure maximum compatibility with the assortment of super-powerful modern MIDI pedal switchers.
